The stress response evolved in humans as way of coping with dangerous or threatening situations. Unfortunately, even though our lifestyles have changed greatly since prehistoric days when threats were everywhere, the stress response hasn’t changed much.

This means that when we’re faced with a stressor that ISN’T dangerous, our body still reacts as though we ARE, in fact, in danger.
